How to Write a Blog Post to Offer Value to Your Customers?
Building strategic relationships with customers is essential for any business to thrive upon. You cannot directly call, text or email your customer or prospect to check whether they need a service, solution or even product that you offer. There is a way out for every problem and that leads you to a blog post!
Step 1: Be a Good Listener
Yes, that’s true. To write on a topic, you should know about it in detail. A post you want to publish in your blog too is no different. It all begins with your interactions with the person whom we call as the source. So, the source is where the problem originates. It’s also where you can collect maximum information that will help you in providing a solution to the problem. Remember the old school saying that half of the answer to a question lies in the question itself.
Be all ears whenever somebody is explaining their problem. Take short notes about important parts of your discussion. Perhaps, if you are allowed, you might even have a call recording of your conversation. Things have become so easy these days that online meeting platforms like Google Meet, Zoom, and Microsoft Teams allow you to record the meeting officially after sending acknowledgement to all the participants in that discussion.
In my experience, I have seen that 90% of such meeting recordings will be saved immediately after the meeting only to be dumped eventually. Now, tell me honestly - how many times have you seriously listened to a conversation that you were part of. Once? Twice? Or, never?
Wouldn’t it be a valuable blog post if only you could convert the interactions into words? I leave that thought up to you.
After the completion of Step 1, you should be able to create the entire skeleton or structure of your post you want to publish in your blog. It might be difficult for you initially but you will get used to the process once you start practising it regularly.
Step 2: Keep Asking Questions
How do you strike a long and interesting conversation with your acquaintance? You ask a few questions randomly whenever you don’t understand a part or whenever you are curious to know about the future turnout of events. It’s exactly the same approach that is needed in your professional life too.
However, you need to be mindful that the quality of questions are top-notch, relevant to the discussion, and, most importantly, makes the other person enthusiastic to answer them.
For instance, please go through the conversation below on data backup.
System Engineer: Having backup of your data will ensure that you don’t lose access to your key information even if it is deleted or lost due to corruption or hacking.
Customer: Oh! I understand. So, how often should I consider backup of my data?
System Engineer: It all depends upon your requirement. If the data is too sensitive, you consider taking backup of data that was created 1 second back as well. There are different timelines such as minutely, hourly, daily and weekly backups that you can choose as per the necessity.
Customer: Alright. You were talking about hacking and corruption in the beginning of our conversation. What if my data is hacked or corrupted, indeed?
System Engineer: Security is our primary responsibility if it is your primary concern. One of the reasons why our backup model is so popular in the industry is because of the security we offer. Regarding the corruption of data, you can overlook that problem as we always maintain a backup copy.
However, the only exception is that we cannot have backup of that data, which was lost a few minutes before if you choose an hourly backup plan from us.
In the above discussion, you can perceive how the System Engineer is offering technical insights into data backup to his Customer. This was possible only because the Customer was asking the right questions at an appropriate time.
Step 3: Credits and References
Add-ons to your blog make them more genuine and interesting to read. If you would like to give credit, you can do so by mentioning the name of the person, company or event. At the same time, give complete details of the reference links from where you have sourced some of the information for your post.
